This is our hand turned "Antler Model Fire Piston. This fire piston is constructed from Axis deer antler stag and is friction polished by hand to a lustrous "glass like" sheen. Axis deer antler is one of the most solid antler's available, with the exception of a very small hole in the center. The antler is very dense and very much resembles elephant ivory. This makes the axis antler a highly sought after antler for turning. These fire pistons have the same internal construction that all of our pistons have, which includes a brass barrel that has been brazed shut and a solid brass piston rod. The rod features a cross drilled tinder gripper which provides a positive grip to almost any tinder. Also, incorporated into every fire piston design is our unique pressure relief o-ring seat. The inside of the barrel and the o-ring seat are hand polished to reduce friction and provide a positive seal.
